no rest for the wicked; semi-closed
WHO: Lucifer, Murmur, eventually Ella. Maybe others after a bit.
WHAT: The Devil has been yoinked out of Hell onto a spaceship. He's not pleased about this turn of events.
WARNINGS: Some swearing, celestial violence and Resting Devil Face.
No good deed goes unpunished, apparently.
To say that Lucifer is surprised and annoyed to find himself interdimensionally kidnapped onto a spaceship is, frankly, a massive understatement. He is livid, and it's all he can do not to simply tear into the (seemingly vaguely organic, ew) walls around him.
He contains himself, barely.
But that's not going to stop him from stalking about, looking for someone or something to take out his anger on.
"John Constantine," he calls out, a name he deliberately mispronounces as Constanteyene because it annoys the shit out of him, "if this is you, I told you the last time, we're even. You're not supposed to pull your little three-wankers-in-a-trenchcoat act on me."
Nothing. Apparently, it's not Constantine behind this - behind the mark on his hand. So, Lucifer keeps talking anyway. It's what he's good at.
"D'you think I went back to Hell for shiggles?" he calls out to anyone and no one. "I've got important business to attend to! A throne with my name on it! Demons to keep in check! The millennial performance evaluations are coming up soon, and Squee in particular is in for a world of hurt. I can't disappoint my loyal subjects." His voice is dripping with sarcasm. Honestly, anyone who chooses to cross his path in this mood is just asking for trouble.

Luckily, Miss Lopez is quick to change the subject. She does know how this works.
"We must've arrived around the same time," he says, clearing his throat. "The multiverse works in mysterious ways, I suppose. You've encountered no danger, I hope?" He pauses a beat. "Well, apart from -" and waves a hand vaguely at himself. As if he's any danger to Miss Lopez.

He raises an eyebrow when Ella begins talking about ghosts, and then - oh, right. Right. Rae-Rae.
"She's not a ghost, she's my sister. Azrael, the Angel of Death," he adds, just as mild, as if this is a totally normal conversation they're having in a totally normal place. "She somehow subtly manipulated you into moving to LA because - she wanted us to be friends, I think." His mouth twists into a grimace, because he hates feeling like he's been manipulated but also Rae-Rae was right, and he cherishes Ella's friendship.

"Rae Rae was an angel. Like the whole time. And she let me think she was a ghost?" Ella is more than a little bit angry right now. "Mi familia pensaba que estaba loca!" My family thought I was crazy! "Like yeah, they still would have thought I was crazy but they wouldn't have thought I was practically possessed if I'd said I was seeing angels!"

Lucifer opens his mouth, thinks better of it, then closes it again, tilting his head in thought. Hm.
"I can't believe I'm about to say this," he says, starting again with a new thought, "...but I think she meant well. I'm always perfectly willing to break the rules, but my other siblings don't often have that luxury. Revealing divinity to humans has always been pretty high on the list of celestial no-nos."
Far be it for him to defend any of his siblings. Even the one who (used to be) his favorite. "...But I completely understand the feeling of betrayal."
After all, he got abandoned by all of them for millennia, because of said rules.

An even worse one now, once her family became aware of who and what Pete was.
For a moment, Ella just touched her neck again, and she asks softly. "If I almost died, she would have shown up, right? Like if say for example someone had a terrible picker and was supposed to be dating a nice guy who happened to be a serial killer?"
no subject
"You dated a what now?"

"...It sounds as if you did show him. By bringing him to justice," he finally says quietly. "And he tried to kill you? But - didn't." He drops a hand to her shoulder, squeezes, almost as if to reassure himself.

"Of course you got it out of him, you're you," he says after a moment, matter-of-factly. That sort of thing is simply not in question for Lucifer. Ella, like all of the humans he cares about, is remarkable. Smart, strong, capable of anything. Just like the Detective, just like Doctor Linda. He never doubts any of their abilities.
"So, what, he tried to get in your head? Of course he did. And it seems like it worked," he adds after a moment, studying her carefully. "Though I can't think why you'd ever listen to the opinion of a known serial killer."

"Lucifer..." Ella starts and then she stops, because she doesn't know what to say to that. Just like there's nothing that he can say to make it better, there's nothing that Ella can say to make it easier for him to understand. "I told you before," Ella finally tries, calling back to when she'd started working for the LAPD: "I've got a lot of darkness in here." He'd not believed her then, and Ella knows that, but she also knows that she's not wrong. There's a reason why she's always attracted to bad people.

C'mon, Ella.
"You're talking to literally the Devil, Miss Lopez, or did you need to see my face again? Trust me, I know human darkness and depravity. I've spent millennia orchestrating the punishments of the worst of humanity. You're precisely the opposite of all that."
He glances around, frowning. "Come on, have you had the official tour yet? I know I haven't."

Ella isn't surprised that Lucifer doesn't see it. He's her friend and she knows that he's always going to think the best of her. But that doesn't change in the slightest the fact that Ella herself believes it and she's going to keep believing it. It would take an act of his Dad to make her stop (and you know it does) but she's used to not talking about it. After all, hadn't Pete been able to hide what he was from Lucifer? Not only Lucifer but also Amenadiel and Chloe and Dan and Maze. Pete had been able to fool all of them (including her rotten old picker, which thank you very much, damn it) and not a single one of them had done anything but to push her towards him. How could any of them be a judge of darkness or not considering that? It's going to be something (something else, honestly.) that's going to keep Ella up at night when she should be sleeping.
Maybe sleep has some like awesome treatments for insomnia. It was a hope anyway.
"Nah, I made a post and was just like you know, wandering around and stuff. Let's go see if there's a good bar and a piano. We know that you're not you without both." It's a grin that's a little more lopsided than Ella would like, but she gives it anyway while offering him an arm.

So he links arms with her.
“I doubt they have anything up to my standards but it can’t hurt to look.”
