event } i always feel like somebody's watching me

WHO: Open to all passengers!
WHAT: A visit to Hama Vorcia, and your 15 minutes of fame.
WHERE: Anywhere on the megastation Hama Vorcia, or Navi.
WHEN: April 11 through May 2
WARNINGS: Add these to your comment subject lines as needed! And if you end up going too hard on one of those extreme challenge shows, please record deaths on the death page.

Hello, passengers! Hope you're all ready for an announcement, 'cause Navi's voice is getting beamed into your head right about ... now:

Attention, passengers.
We'll be docking soon at the megastation Hama Vorcia, where we will remain for approximately three weeks, local time.
Please stand by.

The notable lack of turbulence this time is probably a refreshing change, eh?

Upon docking and disembarking, passengers will find a bank counter just past the terminal, where your new windfall of Navigems can be exchanged for credits (the universal currency). Try not to spend it all in one place!

After that … the megastation’s ceiling is the limit. Have as much fun as you can cram into the next few weeks! Just make sure to pace yourselves - you wouldn’t want to get sidelined by muscle cramps, right?

His shoulders tense. Of course he knows everything about him.

"I don't know what you're talking about." His teeth grit, "If you're referring to my issues with the Catholic church I'm in the right and the archbishop of canterbury needs to be aware of that."

He grimaces, "And if you're referring to Lorraine Warren, I wish her well and I don't understand why she's so upset with me."

She's upset with him because she knows exactly what he is (psychics will do that). It's not about the church.

There's what amounts to a general retail store ahead, "...This seems about your speed if you don't mind me saying so."

But does he look uncomfortable, "Alex told you this?"

Lies, lies, lies, Richard Strand. It's expected, of course, Richard's denial runs deep. It always has and may always remain no matter what events transpire.

"You know that's not true. Neither of those things are true." Unlike some Simon didn't hide his prying. He didn't play nice, or polite. Psychics will do that, and by now Richard should know better.

Simon gave him the opportunity to find out about him, Strand refused, so now he maintains the upper hand.

Simon simply smirks over at him. "Alex is a professional, she didn't tell me anything." And unless Richard insists on stalking him more, Simon will just leave him with that.

Yes. She is a professional and delightfully ridiculously stubborn and Simon Reese, this being in front of him...

"You give me a headache." the words are spit out before they enter a bright white store - occasional splashes of red and cameras, all those cameras like eyes and people being watched...

He gestures, "After you."

Being? How rude, he's still a person. Teetering on the edge of something dark, yes, but still human.

Simon just looks amused, brushing right on past Strand as he heads in to go do some shopping. It's about time someone did, being as Richard gives everyone else headaches. Simon does understand, he has them all the time when he's around noisy people. He's still not inclined to be particularly empathetic toward Strand. Richard does hurt Alex far too much for that.

"Do you believe everything you say, Doctor Strand?"

Eavesdropping is not a particularly nice habit, but it’s one Jack has never felt the need to shake. Lurking in shadow is in her nature, and these two? Well, the older one just seems like a boring, stuffy academic type, but the kid? He’s weird, and a little bit fascinating.

So when Jack happens upon the two of them out shopping, she follows them, listening intently to their conversation to try to glean information about Simon especially. The way they’ve been talking about Alex doesn’t sit quite right with her, though, and it’s what finally drives her to reveal herself after she follows them into the store.

“So, boys - does Alex know you two talk about her like this when she’s not around?” is the question that comes from behind them.

Does everyone like to sneak up on me. is this a trick. Some game and as annoying as Simon is and as much as he is giving him a genuine headache this is-

"I'm sorry but who are you and why do you care?"

The words are snapped, growled even. He shouldn't have to be thinking about her like this he barely knew her...

Yet he knew everything about her. Or at least she knew about him. It's hard not to feel vulnerable with that. Especially now.

Eavesdropping is one of Simon's favorite activities, so he can't really hold that against her. It's still a little shocking that Jack can do it so well, but only a little. He is aware that she's not so different from himself even if he can't quite tell how.

Annoying Strand earns something of an amused look from him.

"You know Alex?" She's won some points coming to her defense, though Simon can't think that anything they've said has been wrong. She is a professional, and she is generous, these things are true.

His attention turns back to Strand's snarling. "Careful, Doctor, the eyes are everywhere. You can't hide from their sight." Implying that he can, of course.

"Jack," she answers, matter-of-factly, adding "we've met before, on the ship." Which he clearly doesn't remember, or doesn't care to remember. Obviously that means Jack should offer a helpful suggestion.

"You know, you might want to look into seeing a doctor while we're here. Memory loss is one of the early signs of dementia."

Jack nods to answer Simon's question. "Of course I know Alex. She's ... " A friend? Not quite, Jack doesn't know her that well. Friend-adjacent, maybe? " ... very interesting. We've had some good talks about monsters. I guess you could say we bonded a little? So you can't really blame a girl for looking out for another girl."

[personal profile] imarealistnotacynic 2021-04-26 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
She did not.

"You can't blame me for being thrown off by trying to deal with someone from my world fond of hunting geese." But she's a friend of Alex so he relaxes, "This place is unnerving. I was following him to make sure he is...accompanied."

There was almost a smirk there, right up until Strand decided to turn his annoyance on Simon. Again. Instead he just fixed the man with a strangely intense, unblinking stare.

It's going to be like that, is it?

"It wasn't a goose." He states matter-of-factly. And the reprisal for this false and defamatory statement? The pressure that had been a mild product of Simon's presence suddenly increased. Tenfold. Right about now is when he decided he had had quite enough of Doctor Richard Strand.

He does hope the man enjoys never sleeping again. "You do have a history of shifting responsibility, don't you, Doctor Strand?" It was almost a warning, a hint of a threat in his tone as that pressure increased ever further. Whatever monitors might have been focused on them went off in the distance, whatever surveillance moved to compensate likewise found their feed nothing but static and darkness.

"Does he need to be accompanied? Lurch here looks like a grown-ass adult - unless, you know, this is another one of those not-a-goose situations."

She shrugs, but that business with the nearby equipment shorting out sure is curious. Jack's seen and read and been around enough paranormal stuff to guess that this wasn't some blown fuse at fault. Odds are good this weirdo might be behind it. He didn't feel like Kin, but that didn't necessarily mean anything.

"So you knew each other before you ended up here? Isn't that a little weird?"

Richard is hit by the pressure when Simon speaks, pulling off his glasses. It builds with the eyes. Thousands and Thousands of eyes burn into him and he stumbles - a small stumble with his fine loafers before he studies her and glares at him.

"He's not Lurch." Richard growls, "Don't call him that. He's far more dangerous. Then that."

The words are spit out, "...STOP IT SIMON."

"'Knew' might be a strong word. I know Doctor Strand, but he doesn't know me," Not only due to the vast time difference between them, but it'd be easy enough to assume that's what he meant.

Simon doesn't glare, but he also doesn't shift his gaze. Unblinking, intense. The pressure doesn't subside, Simon doesn't seem particularly bothered by Richard's accusations or demands.

"You want it to stop?" It's almost sing-song. "Then stop denying what's in front of you." Acknowledging Simon as the source is one step, but if his character is going to be called into question then he's going to demand that Richard admit what he saw wasn't a goose.

Well. This just got even more interesting. Simon's definitely doing something to this Strand guy, and Jack is content to watch whatever's going down. Too bad there's no popcorn machine nearby.

"Don't mind me, boys." She leans backwards against a pillar, watching them both in fascinated amusement. "Go ahead - use your words. You clearly have some things to work out."

Richard Strand isn't here right now. His head feels like it's full of cotton and he glares angrily at Simon before looking at her, "...He is dangerous." The words are spit out and he looks angry, "Simon I am asking you. Stop it."

Anger coils in him like a snake, a curling dragon but the cameras keep staring at him and he crosses his arms over his chest to try and keep himself together.

"...He has abilities. Highly evolved ones." he does too, but he's too focused about how his head hurts.

Enjoy the show, Jack! Simon's not done with Richard yet.

As for the request, it continues to go ignored. You don't get something for nothing here, Strand, not after smearing Simon's character and positioning yourself as his overseer. This isn't Three Rivers, and he's done with being babysat. And Richard? Well, he isn't even a real doctor.

"The goose Doctor strand, what did you see?" He insists, an edge in his tone. Almost imperceptible but punctuated with a cold knife of pain added to the building pressure. He knows Strand knew it wasn't just some lost barnyard animal. Stop playing dumb.

It's pain.

It's a thousand stabbing knives and he would glare except this feels like the worst hangover ever and he's been drunk before. Amber, Coralee leaving, Charlie leaving. Everyone left because -

what did you see

"An...anomaly." that's just it,"so-called evolution. That's....it damn it let me go!"

His mind punctures the sharp pains with the words that make the aches worse.

left, left, left...

So he leaves first but he can't. His legs are lead as he tries to keep upright as a poignant fuck you.

The dragon in his mind uncoils and scratches at the offending pain.

Good enough. With a disappointed sigh the pain and pressure subsides, leaving Strand to try to regain his composure. It's something of an admission, at least, more than he might have gotten back home.

"Being willfully blind doesn't mean what you can't see doesn't exist, Doctor. Denial won't protect your fragile reality." He chides, tone condescending.

"You should go get some rest." Again that dismissal, that warning that Simon's done playing with him. Just be glad he didn't decide to go the seizure route again.

“Everyone’s dangerous if poked in the right place.”

The phrase fuck around and find out applies here. Sadly, Jack was taken offline in her home world too early to know it and cannot impart that thin slice of wisdom.

“And it sure looks like you found his right place to poke, Doc.”

Jack can’t deny that watching Strand find out isn’t a little bit hilarious. Her impression of him so far is that he’s an uptight, condescending Boomer jackass, and thus likely deserves whatever headache Simon’s mean mugging is dealing.

“Lurch isn’t wrong, though. You do look like you could use a nap.”

"I will not be told what to do by an upstart know-it-all psychic mental patient." He glared at her, "Or you. Though I have no ..." Ugh, "Basis for who you are."

His eyes close, pained, before he looks at Simon and looks angry. Very angry, "This is not over Simon. We will discuss this again."

See, Jack knows what's up. Everyone's dangerous when pushed far enough, Richard's just being precious about it because Simon has no qualms about letting it be known. Maybe Richard just hates not being the only person in the room who spontaneously disregards acceptable social norms.

Richard's snapped comment earns an absolutely deranged laugh. "And how would you know about that, Doctor?" He sing-song asked, delighted that this pinned Richard into a corner. Did he listen to the tapes, or did he use those powers he certainly does love to deny having? Either way he was acknowledging that Simon is psychic, which is hilarious enough for him to gloat.

"Goodbye, Doctor." He's quite done with this and refuses to acknowledge if he'll tolerate playing again later or not. At this current juncture he doesn't really care to, Richard is only mildly amusing to mess with. Beyond that Simon has little use for him.
