event } ya gotta be a dolphin

WHO: All the little fishies!
WHAT: An underwater adventure
WHERE: Kupra City, or you can stay on Navi if ya want
WHEN: Dec. 20-Jan. 2 16
WARNINGS: Use ‘em in your threads if needed! And if you end up taking an extended dip in the big drink, please report it on the death page.

[Hello, passengers! Hope you're all ready for an announcement, 'cause Navi's voice is getting beamed into your head right about ... now.]

Attention, passengers.
We'll be landing soon on the planet Umora, at Kupra City.
We'll be docked for two weeks, local time.
Please stand by for atmospheric entry.

[Is it just your imagination, or does Navi sound more tired than normal? Either way, it's now time to BUCKLE IN, CHAPS. It's not a particularly rough landing, just your standard amount of turbulence, though it may seem a little jarring to those who aren't used to space travel.

Upon docking underwater and disembarking, passengers will find a bank counter just past the terminal, where your new windfall of Navigems can be exchanged for credits (the universal currency).

Have fun! And do try not to drown … ]

...Ah.

"Perhaps we could go and find some tea and I could ask you some questions. I have a friend here I want to make sure is all right, and she has friends here that I would also like to make sure are...all right."

Still. The opportunity to examine other worlds...

"Are these dangerous? These worlds? Are weapons provided to us?"

"Splendid idea! I had, in fact, returned specifically for tea. Delightful when things work out," He does quite enjoy his tea. "Take the time you need to check on your friend." It's not like Murmur has any significantly pressing engagements. He can go be creepy about the city any time he chooses.

Ah, a good question. "Thus far? Largely not, though the previous world did result in a nearly disastrous run in with an entity known as the Twig Man. Two passengers among us identified it as being similar in nature to the urban legend Slenderman, if you are at all familiar," Murmur isn't, but he sure has been having fun learning. "As for armaments Navi is not equipped with an armory, that isn't to say they are unavailable. Typically you should be capable of finding something for purchase on the worlds. I would also suggest looking into clothing, you are only provided with what you have arrived with."

After all they weren't exactly expected guests. He'll let Strand decide if they should separate and reconvene somewhere more comfortable or just make their way elsewhere.

So you shop on alien worlds, "...How long are we docked here?"

He's not going to sleep in his suits. The notion is abhorrent and perhaps that's where Alex got her clothes because she wouldn't have been caught dead in that back home.

He thought.

Even though he barely knew her.

"I think the cafeteria has earl gray if you would be all right with that, unless you have something you recommend Mr..."

Yes you do, the variety is certainly novel. "Two weeks, local time. Which will translate to something longer than we are accustomed to, I believe the day cycle for this planet runs closer to thirty hours rather than twenty four."

Which was to say they were likely to be there a decent enough amount of time to finalize any shopping, and a decent amount of information gathering. There was time yet for Richard to outfit himself decently comfortable, though he may find it difficult to find his preferred fashion.

"Murmur, no mister necessary. And that should be more than sufficient. I am looking into procuring a local blend that seems to be similar in nature to oolong, but have not yet found a supplier I am satisfied with." It's an implied offer, for later, should Strand choose to take tea with him again another time.

"After you." Of course he doesn't expect Strand to recognize his name as anything but a strange choice, so far no one else has. It would seem that more esoteric knowledge was not widespread, despite a greater availability.

At the mention of the name Strand makes an amused face but he doesn't say anything, "I like oolong. My-friend here reminded me of earl gray and lavender, perhaps I'll look for that on these ...planets."

He considers, "Can I say, I'm actually excited to experience this? He glances around, "Despite my trepidation, the science behind all of this must be fascinating."

Oh? Murmur does faintly raise an eyebrow at the smirk, a hint of curiosity crossing his features though he refrains from giving voice to the implied question of what had Strand amused. "This one in particular being something of a tourist trap does boast a wide variety of goods," It was an ideal location to look for luxuries. "I didn't catch your name, by the way." There's a faint hint of a tease there. He'd find it other ways but he'd much rather be told.

Although he does seem delighted to see Strand coming around. "You certainly can! Despite the less than favorable circumstances, and completely reasonable wariness, this does offer an otherwise impossible opportunity. Might as well make the best of it, wouldn't you agree?"

"Doctor Richard Strand." If he's here he's going to make sure people are on top of giving him his laurels.

He is used to a certain level of treatment, "I agree. I'e been saying for years that it is better to have an opportunity to study science. If we weren't wasting our time on the paranormal we could have this sort of technology."

He moves to follow him, "So this planet isn't dangerous."

"Doctor of what, if I may ask?" Purely curiosity. Also, if he's medical, his expertise would likely come in handy. Despite things not being terribly dangerous yet people were still prone to injury. Humans did enjoy getting into fights.

"Do you not think there may be scientific merit to expanding perception beyond what is presently accepted as real? There was a time when microbes would have been considered as outlandish as ghosts, after all." Not that he's endorsing it, truth be told Murmur enjoyed not having to be particularly careful. Humans were remarkably good at dismissing odd occurrences as nothing but happenstance. Made his job easier.

"No more dangerous than any standard heavily populated city. I'd be mindful of thieves, tourism does tend to attract those sorts." But surely Strand already realized that much.

"Psychology, Religion and Folklore" He nods, "And yes, that is the case. I have yet to find any proof of it however and thousands have tried. We know there's proof of microbes."

He considers this and then decides - perhaps - he should ask Alex about it. She had apparently done shopping and if he kept it strictly professional...

"What do you do? If you don't mind me asking Mr. Murmur?"
albatrossomen: (Scrying pool)

[personal profile] albatrossomen 2021-01-09 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah, an interesting spread." With Psychology being a defined science and the other two dealing with, well, legends and myths. "We know there is proof of microbes now," He counters. There was a time when that was decidedly not the case. "Not that I disagree with you, by any means, this is merely an exercise in hypotheticals." Or rather, it's an acknowledgement that they at present lack the technology to adequately measure that which sits beside their world.

Not that he's going to volunteer as much.

"Oh, please, Mr. Murmur sound so strange," Oh it's horrible don't do that. Though that question does give him pause. Boy, if that isn't a difficult one to answer without lying. "I am a tutor of philosophy, and have in the past kept a library. That has since changed hands." An interesting parallel should Dr. Strand remember it, wherein the owner of that name was also rumored to teach philosophy. "Of course I lack any fancy degrees to give myself more credence. Merely one passionate for the art."

[personal profile] imarealistnotacynic 2021-01-09 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"Philosophy is a key component of quite a lot of psychology, an amateur hobby of mine." He nods, impressed, "Even without a degree that doesn't require much fundamental understanding. Do you prefer a more western curriculum or eastern teachings?"

He'll move to look for a place to sit at the promise of tea, "I confess after you saying it I must confess a certain excitement now after your description of the purpose of this ship."

It's still dangerous, and he still thinks it's a trap, but he'll confess it's exciting all the same.

"It is certainly one of my favorite topics," That and divination which he knows won't go over well with a man who has already professed himself a skeptic, if not in too many words. Murmur will be keeping that one close to his heart for the time being. "All of them." He answers easily enough.

"From what I understand the original design is long distance transport of personnel. Thus the lack of armaments or an armory of any kind. If you have a moment at some point Navi is a delight to converse with. Though I must advise certain topics will be lost on them, they are somewhat young and inexperienced with the complexities of social interactions."

He finds it charming, but worries for them all the same. While Richard goes to find somewhere to settle in Murmur will go make himself busy with getting the water ready.

"Has anyone thought of asking this Navi how long it will take to achieve our goal so we can return? I have speaking engagements."

He settles in and frowns, "also how much do we get from our so-called allowance? Forgive me this still reads like an episode of the twilight zone."

It was a favorite of his when he was a boy after all.

"...Is there a lab somewhere or any other facility? I would like to know if I need to find supplies."

"You know, come to think of it I haven't. I suppose I have not been in any particular hurry." He can, however, understand that others might not be so patient. Time is a luxury he has to spend as long as he likes on any one endeavor. World or universe ending notwithstanding.

"Another difficult question. I do not completely understand the currency exchange, and it does somewhat change from planet to planet. Fluctuating markets you see, but typically enough to accommodate a couple sets of clothing or thereabouts." Currency was a bit fuzzy to him. "Of course one may also be able to barter work or trade for anything additional. Navi handles ensuring that we are fully stockpiled on necessities for the length of the trip. Food and such, though if you desire anything specific you'll have to find that yourself."

Alcohol has been an intensely desired commodity of late.

"There is an infirmary which is also kept stocked, I imagine you would find most of what you need there. Floor three, should you wish to investigate further."
