Uh. Well, I mean most people don't believe in them in any concrete way. The Church has exorcism rights of course, but the ones that surround my story are different.
I guess that makes some kind of sense, but definitely different from what I'm used to. Demons are just demons, they don't have any specific cultural source, though some were more likely to appear in some areas for a while until it was easier to travel to other places.
Yes but the development of world travel played a part in it too. The portals mostly only work one way. You need a very particular magic to open one that works both ways.
Which is kind of terrifying. I mean, especially considering these demons, or at the very least the people summoning them are definitely trying to break down the boundaries between worlds. I don't know if they mean multiversal or like... hell but it's still a hard thought nonetheless.
Definitely, hell where I come from. Though I'm not so sure in most cases it's about breaking down boundaries between the human world and hell so much as thinking that if they summon a demon they can control it and force it to do their bidding. It doesn't usually end well for the human that tries that though.

They’re Sumerian. I think anyway. There’s a lot of stuff around ancient Babylonian deities.
