[While this post is happening, there is a tiny flurry (pun intended) of a woman who has multiple pans and pots happening on the stove. She clearly has been cooking for a good long time, and there is something like a dark stew, a closed dish of rice, a grill with corn on it, and Ella has even made her own tortilla. Flipping over the corn on the cob, she just clicks the tongs together.]
Look, okay I get it. The whole wooooo spooky thing on the fourth floor was one thing. Cool, sure and you know adding to that whole we're being chased by something vibe and everything. Yeah, definitely hitting the whole Event Horizon set up buttons and everything. It's been happening since before I got here, so I just went with the flow because you know, people seemed to like it.
[Yeah, that but is coming and it might as well be glowing with neon lights.]
But what's happening now is totally dangerous! The ice isn't cool, people! It's all Elsa up in there, and someone needs to let it go! I totally busted my ass three times already! Like come on, please. I really don't want to break an ankle or have someone break their neck! I know stuff's weird, but doing things like this could really hurt people!
Also, I made mole. And mole is magic. Come have some. It'll help make you feel better again. A good long homecooked meal always does.

Floor Four? Sounds like you may have discovered the source of our current troubles.
[Not that he's advocating anyone go on a hunt, he'd prefer they didn't.]
What is mole?

[Ella is thinking. And Ella is gonna go looking. She's sure it'll be fine.]
It's a thick sort of sauce/stew kind of thing. I'm making it a stew cause you know beef stew helps people. But it's made with different chilis and grilled veg and herbs and spices and stuff. I did it with chicken and some without nuts in case you know people have allergies.

[He's trying to keep it from spreading worse than it already is. Please don't get hurt, Ella.]
Oh yes, allergies are an affliction mortals suffer. It must be difficult having your own vessel working against you.

[They didn't get to enjoy the boon of their bond like she did.]

[Ella promises through the network, but what she sends next is through their link.]
I know what happens when you try and tell someone what they experience isn't real, so the best way is to try and help them through it, I think.

[A better way to have this conversation, lest someone oversee and find it patronizing.]
At present it is every bit as real to them as you or I or Navi. Your assessment is correct, no one ever appreciates being told their experiences are in their mind.
no subject
[And she totally does, because of everything.]
Do you think that like someone could get hurt or killed because of this?

The dreams themselves are, while realistic, intangible. That's not to say they do not pose a danger to themselves or others.
Nor can I account for the mental strain. I'm afraid that is not an area I have strong experience in.
no subject
At least too much.

Perhaps not while things like this are transpiring, of course. Speaking of, I'd offer to help but I'm afraid I am a little occupied at the moment.
no subject
Oh yeah! Definitely. You take care of that I’ll take care of things here And don’t worry, everything is gonna be fine.

Best not to repeat nightmares.
action
At first, he places a gloved hand against the wall to brace himself and rest for a moment, eyes narrowing as he sees the flurry of activity going on near the stove. With everything going on, and after busting his own ass a couple times, he's not really in the mood to deal with people, but he's also not ready to make the undignified trek back to the other end of the hallway.
Maybe she'll just ignore him. As he goes to move away from the wall, he slides a bit but manages to catch his balance, looking even more annoyed than he did before.]

Woah! Watch out, buddy. I don't know who's doing all the winter works but it's definitely not cool. I mean, someone could really get hurt! And I'm sure all that water isn't going to be something good for Navi's sensors or whatever. I mean I'm sure that water doesn't react all that great with whatever it is that she's got going on under the hood if you know what I mean.
[No, Ella's not slowing down her talking in the slightest, sorry Kaz.]
Hey, are you hungry? I mean, dinner's not quuuuuite ready yet, but sit down, and I'll fix you a plate. Do you like things spicy or not spicy?
no subject
As she talks, he stays quiet and keeps his eyes fixed on her, though for a moment his gaze is distant and unfocused. Speaking of those hallucinations, water has a lot to do with what's been tormenting him in particular, and it takes him a moment to wrestle himself back to the present. When he does, his eyes snap into focus, as he tries to keep up with what she's saying. Saints, she talks fast.
Well, his hope of being ignored didn't quite work out, but maybe she wouldn't notice that anything was wrong. He's quiet for a moment, fixing her with that piercing stare of his, then he finally shifts, the rough rasp of his voice short and to the point.]
Don't touch me.
[Sorry Ella, he still needs to work on practicing good manners. Another small pause, as he registers the rest of what she said to him, followed by a shake of the head.]
I'm fine. [Come to think of it, with everything going on around here, he doesn't recall the last time he ate, and right on cue, his stomach growls to punctuate that point. It does smell good.]
no subject
Ella's been there and done that herself, and she has no intention of doing that to people who's very fears have been made manifest. So, she takes a deep breath and steps back from him, well out of touching range where she otherwise would have hugged him. But right now? There's no way.
Her eyes move from his face to his chest and back up again, before she turns and speaks at him over her shoulder.]
Take a seat. The ice doesn't extend that much in here, and it's safer than like...trying to stand there and balance. You never answered me: do you like things spicy?
[While Ella is talking, she already has opened the pot of steaming rice and added a large amount to the plate, and then sticks one of the pieces of corn on a stick next to it. Has she gone all out to try and make Mexican (and LAian) street food? Yes she has, so she's made Elotes.]
no subject
Watching her out of the corner of his eye, he straightens himself up and tries to relax some of the tension out of his frame. Even if he hadn't taken a couple spills, the effort of trying to keep his balance down the hallway had put a strain on his bad leg, not to mention it tended to bother him more in the cold. As a result, he stiffly crosses the room, limping and leaning heavily on his cane until he sinks down into the first chair he comes to.
Truthfully, he hadn't intended to come in and sit down, and certainly hadn't intended to have someone serve him food, but it's hard to focus right now and easier to just surrender to the hospitality. Something with a kick might help drag his awareness back to reality, and maybe the heat would help to dissipate the cold waters that kept rising and threatening to drag him under. Gathering his thoughts, he stretches his leg into a more comfortable position to rest it, letting his cane rest against his thigh.]
...Something spicy sounds good.
no subject
[Giving him a pretty solid grin, Ella moves to the smaller pot of mole, because as much as she likes some of the people who happen to be on board, she knows that for the most part it seems like they definitely had a gringo palate, and she really doesn't want to blow their heads off. Honestly, the smaller pot is probably only medium to high spicy, depending on one's frame of reference but adding tummy issues to people when all this is going on, seems like a bad idea.]
So like hoping you have no nut allergies or whatever, but if you do I'm sure Navi has an epipen on board or something. Definitely not as worrisome as it would be back home. But this is mole. Mole is totally magic. My abuela always said that it would burn out any evil spirit or whatever who is totally messing up your life. She fed me a looooooottttttt of mole.
[Family thinking you're nuts for seeing a ghost who was actually the angel of death and you didn't even know it and superstition means that you got a lot of mole, a lot of praying and a lot of St. Michael candles in your name.
Anyway, Ella takes a generous amount from the pot and brings the plate over before she grabs hot sauce from next to the stove.]
Just in case it's not spicy enough for you.

Shiiiiiiit, you had my Californian heart at 'homecooked mole'. It's just not the same in New York.

Yeah, I know! You'd think it would be, but there's not enough Mexicans with people who have their abuela's recipe. But hey, at least I was able to find some stuff to make it, and I asked Persephone to grow some specific stuff in the garden.
We're gonna have so many Mexican meals. But I'm trying to like space them out, you know?
Also hey, I'm Ella!
[Hugs to come in person.]
