Attention, passengers.

From the announcement until landing, to help everyone adjust to the new environment, Navi will gift all passengers with a a faint hummed melody.

Or he might just be a huge dumbass who doesn't know how to boyfriend.
"Obviously I want to impress her! By taking her on a bloody fantastic date that she'll remember for years to come. I assume you have some experience with dating?"
no subject
He pointedly fingered his necklace, and then titled his head.
"I was once wealthy and famous, and those dates - for all that they were fantastic, extravagant, and purposefully mind-blowing - they didn't go anywhere. Because I was making the fatal error that you are making, my dear."
no subject
"And what mistake is that, o dating guru?" he asks, somewhat sardonically.
no subject
“Because I thought they needed to be impressed by the artifice to accept me as a romantic partner,” Gen thought back, his smile now a little bemused. “All the flash, all the glitter, that was all on the surface. So if they fell for it - that’s what they liked. Something that wasn’t truly me.”
He looked at Lucifer. “How well do you and the homicide detective know each other?”
no subject
Well that might be a little too close to home. Lucifer looks momentarily flummoxed.
"No one knows me better than she does," he says after a moment, dead serious. "She's seen under the artifice. To the ugliness underneath, and she still chose me. Now I just want to give her something special in return."
no subject
The Mentalist figured he might have used up his luck for the day, though, and reminded himself not to press it further. He hummed and tapped his chin. “Then something special should be something specific to her, hm? You’ve seen under her artifice as well, after all, if I’m to guess. The way to really impress someone is to show that you appreciate what most people devalue about them.”
Or, well, after trying to do exactly that by supporting all of his insane science schemes, building an entire observatory and telescope. That might have been over the top, but it was also very Senku-specific. Thinking on that, Gen smirked, poking fun at himself. “Oh, and follow it up with using your words. Even the best and most personalized date will be useless if neither of you manage to be honest with each other. And some people are terrible at honesty.”
no subject
"And the Detective has no artifice, she's precisely as good as she seems to be." Which is very, very good. And wonderful. And amazing. And...He shakes himself a bit.
"Anyway, thanks. I'll take the advice into consideration." Which means he probably won't follow it, or he'll give it his own, very Lucifer twist that kind of throws out the whole point of it.
no subject
But … he had a feeling that this man would see it as an insult.
He certainly appeared to be stubborn enough to not take advice. Gen recognized that look. He resisted the urge to sigh. First sign of dishonesty right there, wasn’t it?
“I appreciate you taking the time to listen to my humble opinion, my friend,” Gen pretended right with this stranger that he’d follow his advice at all. “I only help I was able to help in a small way. My name is Gen Asagiri, by the by. It’s a pleasure meeting you.”
no subject
"Lucifer - Morningstar," he says, offering his hand to shake, if Gen wants to. He doesn't immediately launch into his usual speech about how he's really the Devil, because he knows it's not a sure thing whether that'll mean anything to this person, given their situation. "I assume you're a recent transplant to Navi?"
no subject
"An unfortunate name when encountering superstitious people - or am I instead incredibly lucky?" Gen asked, grinning broadly. "Yes, I've only arrived recently. The Navi is a very special craft, it seems, but I do wish I would've been asked before we were brought on board."
no subject
“At the very least, you’re lucky to be meeting me here and not in your Hell loop,” he says breezily. “A lot of humans used to get lucky by meeting me, but I’m monogamous these days. And I get the feeling Navi would’ve liked to give us a heads-up as well.”
no subject
Making any sort of deal would probably be a singularly bad idea, if this Lucifer matched any story he'd ever heard of - but it probably wouldn't be diplomatic to pretend he's against the very idea at the outset.
He hummed, sounding curious, "You believe Navi is being forced to take people? Forgive me, I'm extremely new to this situation."
no subject
Not that Lucifer ever does the reading, either. Pfft. That's for the birds.
"We haven't been kidnapped, per se. It's, oh, a multiversal anomaly or something like that." He waves a hand vaguely, because, again. Didn't do the reading.
no subject
Though, Gen did let Lucifer get a peek of his cards. "I grew up in the age of Wikipedia, my dear. It's hard to trust things unless I know what the source happens to be."

He tilted his head. "They allow us to actually communicate with it? Based on past experience ... sentient vehicles tend to be a great deal more opaque."
Given Gen's skepticism, speaking to Navi directly wouldn't prevent him from dismissing his paranoia, not necessarily. But it would give it a great deal many more points than earned by the train he was previous kidnapped by.

There were way too many similarities for Gen to actually feel comfortable, to feel like he could trust the ship. But he could recognize at least that he would have to view the evidence for himself, instead of dismissing it out of hand.
He smiled craftily and shifted the subject; "Is that Detective you speak of the object of your affections?"
no subject
But! He's been asked a question about the Detective! And he really must correct the record on that account. "We're together," he says, because object of your affections just feels a little one-sided. It is definitely not one-sided. "Unequivocally, a couple."
I'm really sorry about the delay in this tag x_x
He would like to think he could tell the difference.
"Then, unequivocally, I give you my congratulations," Gen told him, appraising the man(?) in a slightly different light. "It's admirable you're going to such efforts to continue to impress her, knowing that."
