a bumpy start! {glyphcomm + action}

You wake up to the sound of alarms and a distinct sensation of quaking, and you're quite obviously not where you're supposed to be. This room is strangely shaped, nothing you recognize, and you definitely don't remember how you got here. The room is bathed in soft red light, which might look pretty, except it's blinking in a way that you can probably guess signals danger.

There's a symbol on the back of your hand that you don't remember acquiring, either, but that's probably less important at the moment than the sound of the alarms shrieking and the prerecorded voice speaking over the intercom. It's one of those bland, agender voices, entirely too calm in tone for the message it's relaying:

WARNING
WARNING
IMPACT THREAT DETECTED
EVASIVE ACTION REQUIRED

There’s a loud crash and another violent shaking, as that impact threat collides with the ship’s hull. The warning message continues to repeat on a loop amidst the blaring of the alarm. All passengers should be conscious now, with the noise at such a high volume. Opening your cabin door reveals a nondescript hallway, with five cabin doors on each side for a total of ten on each floor; the doors to the empty cabins are unlocked and inside the cabins hold the same plain, basic furnishings as your own. Halfway into the hallway, there is a lift on one side and a set of stairs on the other.

Jane recognizes that voice and steps forward, hands still under her arms, and smiles as she looks into Jack's eyes.

"Yeah. Like I'm going to take moral advice from the bitch who watched my friends get murdered and laughed."

Jack flashes her a saccharine-sarcastic smile. “Sweetie, we both know that you don’t have friends. Also I have no idea what you’re talking about, but if you need some chalk to go draw squares for your way out, I’ll be more than happy to give you some of mine.”

Yes, she carries a box of chalk in her pocket. No, this is not the time to explain why.

“And for the record, calling me a bitch in a derogatory way is still oppressive and misogynistic, that hasn’t changed just ‘cause we’re apparently in space now.”

"Yeah, because you thought it was funny to let them die, you sick fuck." She smiles back sweetly. "You can keep trying to guilt-trip me but we both know you're a piece of shit. That's why you're getting so offended that I wanna do exactly what you did, isn't it?"

“No, I meant you had no friends before, either. I’ll use smaller words next time, so you can keep up.” She shrugs. “My bad, I forgot who I was talking to. And I thought you hated the Heart? Now suddenly they’re your friends?”
fuckregularpeople: (jane: picking apart)

"Nope. Still glad they're dead. I'm talking about all the other people we lost. Everyone who got murdered and replaced. You know, the ones you laughed about when you tried to whore out your coding?"

Jack’s just gonna give Jane a real long dead-eyed stare now. Is she really hearing this. Are these actual words coming out of the other woman’s mouth. Finally, she shakes her head.

“Wow. Just wow. Either your memory is real bad or you have a wildly different take on reality than the rest of us.”
fuckregularpeople: (jane: speak my peace)

[personal profile] fuckregularpeople 2020-09-15 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
"Congratulations, shitwad, you figured out I'm crazy. Not like it's in the name or anything." Jane cants her head, her smirk disappearing. "But that doesn't mean I'm wrong. You didn't give a shit about the people we lost."
sisterswitch: (shivering in bed)

“You’re not just crazy, Jane,” yes Jack knows your name, “you’re downright delusional.”

Jack shakes her head, mouth pursed. “And you don’t know a goddamn thing about me, so why don’t you shut up before you embarrass yourself any more than you already have?”
fuckregularpeople: (jane: so over this)

[personal profile] fuckregularpeople 2020-09-18 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
"Bold of you to assume you can embarrass me. And I know how you decided to come at us. That's enough."

"Sweetie, I said you were embarrassing yourself. Try to keep up." Jack punctuates her words with a saccharine smile.

Jane meets Jack's eyes, glaring up at her in response. "Go ahead. Try me."

Jack’s about to say something else sarcastic to Jane, but the ship suddenly shakes sharply, and Jack refocuses on staying upright. Once she’s back on secure footing, she replies: “Mm, maybe later. In case you hadn’t noticed, we’ve got something a little more important to deal with right now.”

You know. That crash landing Jane’s refusing to help with.
fuckregularpeople: (jane: oh fuck no)

"It's cute how you care when it's your own skin on the line." Jane's glare is hateful and she meets Jack's eyes as her lips curl upward. "Keep worrying about that."

Yeah, she's not going to do anything to ease the other woman's fears yet. Let her suffer.
sisterswitch: (in the gathering gloom)

Jack isn't afraid, even about their impending possibly doom. It's just so tiresome to argue with someone who is wrong and refuses to see it, and Jack's done wasting her words on Jane.

"OK, Elsa, time to let it go!" she says, cheerily, over her shoulder, since she's turned away from Jane and taken hands with the two nearest people, focused on lending the ship whatever strength it gathers from this touchy-feely nonsense. She's done trying to correct Jane's wrong ideas about her. Haters gonna hate, and Jack's dealt with plenty of haters in her lifetime. Best thing to do is move on.
