Once they pull back, she presses her lips together. “So many, I don’t know what to do with them all,” she carries on with the tease-train, leaning into the bar once again to enjoy her drink. “What about you? How’s your dance card looking?”
no subject
“Obviously, a lot of people are clamoring for me,” he says easily. “But I’m turning them all down. I only want one dance partner tonight.”
Or ever. But that’s a little more serious than he wants to get right now.
“Although,” he adds after a moment. “I may need to reserve one for Miss Lopez.”
no subject
Maybe he and Ella can take that moment of dancing to talk some things out. Seeing his devil face seriously cannot be the easiest thing ever to see. She would know.
“You two should have another chat about… you know.”
no subject
And then she says that. What happened to “date night”, again? Lucifer glances at Chloe, then down to his whiskey and sighs.
“Do you really think talking about it is the best course of action here? Better than, say, not talking about it? What if she does have a mental breakdown, then what is she supposed to do?”
He doesn’t say she can’t just run away to Rome for two months because he’s not interested in trying to guilt-trip Chloe. But still -
“Maybe you should talk to her. After all, you’ve been through the whole… process.”
no subject
"Well... if she did end up having a breakdown, we both know it's not like she can run off to Rome for a few months." A frown plays the corner of her lips. She swirls her drink for a moment, and then downs the rest of it in a heavy swallow. "Maybe."
Yeah. Yeah, maybe. Ella wouldn't be alone in this—she shouldn't have to go through this alone.
Chloe pushes the empty glass to the bartender and holds up a finger to signal another.

Chloe had the luxury of being able to go a few thousand miles away from him to process and he has never begrudged her that. Miss Lopez, on the other hand, doesn’t have that luxury right now. That’s not really fair. She might need space! Why wouldn’t she?

no subject
No, absolutely not.
He finds he can't quite articulate all that just now, or maybe he just doesn't want to, so he just shakes his head and takes on what he hopes is a more flippant attitude as he says, "seems pointless. She's seen my Devil face, she knows, she's fine with it. Best leave it there."
And then, before Chloe has a chance to respond or argue back, he takes a breath, and turns the charm on full-blast. Not his mojo, of course, just the attitude that eons perfecting his flirting game has given him. The hand at Chloe's waist slides over the fabric of her dress, almost a tease, almost possessive, and he leans in, smiling his most charming smile, breathes in her ear, "besides, I know you didn't get all dressed up tonight to talk about boring things like that." He gives his voice a sultry tone that's made countless women (and more than a few men) weak in the knees over the centuries.

Chloe takes another, much longer sip, sets her glass on the counter as she slips a hand inside his jacket to slide over the silk backing of the vest inside at his lower back. "I dressed up tonight in this so I could later sit on your face and marvel at the sparkle of rhinestone thigh-highs while I ride it."
She's not quite weak in the knees, yet, however she basking in the closeness.

“I never realized you have such a naughty mind.” His straight-laced, by-the-book Detective, who always made such a show of being grossed out whenever he so much as mentioned his sex life early in their partnership - well, his surprise is genuine!
He gives her a squeeze. “I thought you might want dinner first,” he adds. Like, an actual, proper date. Which they’ve never really done. He’s never done.
no subject
"Dinner? Good thing you're almost always hungry, mm? I would love to have dinner with you," she responds, hand slipping out of his jacket but not without giving his side a squeeze back.
With the bartender off at the other end of the bar and the two of them not seemingly paying attention to anything or anyone other than one another, Chloe goes to get her drink back with the intention of bringing it with her to wherever they go for their meal. She startles then as she almost bumps into a man she doesn't recognize, apologizing, reaching for her drink and not noticing the way it oddly fizzes more than it should.
"Shall we?" The drink is lifted, her attention turning back to her date, eyes raised to his as she's about to get in an innocent sip.
Does this place have anywhere that might sell a delicious steak dinner? One has to wonder.

In one swift movement, he swipes the glass from her fingers, tossing the contents directly onto the floor. "Oops," he murmurs, and then he makes a beeline for the retreating back of the man who bumped into her. "One moment," he calls over his shoulder to her.
The guy - probably some sort of alien, though they look mostly human - has just stepped outside when Lucifer grabs him, slamming him up against the building. "It's not polite to spike a lady's drink without her permission," he growls. His eyes flash red.
no subject
Chloe remains where she is, arms folding under her chest, and she decides to then wave down the bartender to order a fresh gin and tonic. Best to wait for him to return, which she knows won't take long. Meanwhile ... the alien under the guise of a human form grunts as his back hits the brick wall. Although the red eyes flashing don't frighten him, he holds his three fingered hands up in defense.
"She was with you? I—I didn't know! I swear!"
no subject
"She belongs to herself," he growls, his face beginning to change. "You'd do well to remember this moment, next time you think about doing something like that."
The guy squeals in fear then, and Lucifer gives him a sort of shove down the street as his face changes back to its usual look and he smooths his hair down almost automatically before stepping back inside the bar.
"Ah, there you are," he says when he spots her. "Right, where were we? Oh yes! Dinner reservations. Shall we?"
no subject
A gesture then to wherever he'd gone off. "What was that about? You went off pretty quick to deal with...whatever that was?"
no subject
He offers her his elbow. "That's the second time I've caught someone doing that. This planet is quite lawless."

He points up the street a bit, where - indeed, it looks like there's a very classy restaurant up there, in walking distance from the bar.
"There it is. I asked for a lot of opinions about it but almost everyone kept saying just be yourself or some nonsense. If you don't like the look of it, we can go somewhere else."
no subject
"Wait, do you mean 'almost everyone' as in you'd asked around on Navi?" She cuts a look between him and the restaurant. "It looks—nice—yeah! I'm sure I won't have any complaints. All I'm looking for is a nice steak dinner and a nice night out with you."
no subject
He pauses outside the door, taking her hand in his. Looking at her with something akin to adoration. But words sort of fail him, and he stammers a bit.
“Anyway, I think this place has… something like steak. A non-Earth beef equivalent, if you will.”
no subject
Chloe squeezes his hand. "Well, whatever they have I'm sure I'll enjoy it." Because this will be a first for them, and this time he won't be able to stand her up. "And don't worry, you're doing everything right."
no subject
He is just... so eager to please her. To show her a good and proper date, like a good and proper boyfriend. "This is another first for me, as well," he adds once they're seated at a nice, quiet table for two.
"The first time I've had to sing for my supper," he teases, nodding at a stage that's set up at one end, where clearly there is live music sometimes. "Did a whole set the other night for this meal."
no subject
Chloe is actually kind of impressed. This whole change in multiverses or space travel, it’s new for her. Maybe even him as well. The fact that he’s here and has no access to the unlimited amounts of money that he would back home, that he would have to sing for their meal.
“Did you draw a big crowd?”
no subject
"Of course, this is me we're talking about," he says with a grin. "I could sing one for you if you like, but I know you're not really one for the spotlight."
He's a very considerate Devil.
no subject
Chloe's kind of curious, now that their relationship is more stable and solid.
