event } stop hitting yourself

WHO: Open to all passengers!
WHAT: Glyph glitch for senses and powers gettin’ all wacky.
WHERE: Anywhere on Navi.
WHEN: May 23-June 12.
WARNINGS: Add these to your comment subject lines as needed! And if you happen to get your head crushed by a too-swol shipmate, please record deaths on the death page.

There's no warning today, nothing to indicate travel conditions are anything out of the ordinary, but when Navi passes through the nebular cloud, the ship experiences a momentary stuttering of power. Lights flicker and go dead but quickly come back online as if nothing happened.

Passengers may not immediately feel the lingering effects of the nebular cloud shorting out everyone's systems, but at some point over the next few weeks, passengers will likely notice something's ... off. Maybe their special abilities don't behave as they should. Maybe one of their normal sensory abilities has been diminished or disappeared entirely.

What's going on here? How long will this last? It is a mystery. Enjoy untangling it yourselves!

Oh no, not this again. Squall doesn't even bother watching the onboarding video. The voice in his head was enough information, gentle voice be damned. He stays in bed long enough to check what's on him. His triple triad cards, check; his lion plush, weird but ok; and... no weapon. Of course.

He sees the spell tattoos on the back of his left hand and opts to pointedly ignore the unfamiliar one on his right. This doesn't look like Dualis. The voice doesn't sound like The Head, but it doesn't matter. It's the same crap on a different day.

He gets out of bed and creates a spike made of light in his clenched hand, making his way out of the room and into the hallway. He's on edge but he wants answers from an actual human, so he calls out to the first person he sees:

"Hey, you!"

The magical spike he's holding suddenly bursts into a dazzling harmless display of light, startling him and sending him stumbling against the wall right as his vision goes dark.

"Fuck!"

Help the grumpy stressed teenager?

There was a reason the lights were out in the hallway, stranger. That reason would become abundantly clear once that annoying bright flash of light went off, causing the shadows themselves to move as if they were almost solid. Shifting and crawling along the walls, devouring the light and recoiling at the flash Squall created.

As soon as it was out they seemed to all rush right back in.

There's a person in front of him. He wasn't there before, but he's there now, tall and gangly and just a little hunched over. Staring in a way that made it seem like he was looking through you, rather than at you.

The shadows almost seemed like they were coming from him.

"Lost?"

The sudden appearance would be startling if Squall could see at present. As it is, the voice alone only incurred one reaction, to raise a shield made of light in front him that's as tall as he is. His free hand trying to grasp at a weapon that's not there. He keeps his back against the wall for now. At least that keeps one side of him safe.

"Who are you?" Tense but as steady as he can force himself to be in his current state of fight or flight.

As quickly as the figure was there, it was gone again in that flash of light. Stop doing that. Came a fierce hiss in Squall's ear, which shouldn't be possible given his back was against a wall. The shadows remain, though the figure seems to have at least for the moment vanished.

Even if it doesn't quite feel like it.

Squall lashes out in the direction of that voice and of course hits nothing. Not being able to see is making this situation increasingly dire for him, so he does the next best thing. He calls on a bolt of lightning to slam it down where the voice had been. Sorry, Navi.

The situation was getting out of hand and Simon? Well, he wasn't exactly equipped for nor particularly interested in playing the part of peacekeeper. It was obvious he was making the situation worse so... he left. No response forthcoming, though a certain sense of heaviness did seem to lift from the corridor. The lights flickering back to life, not that Squall would necessarily notice, and that distinct sense of being watched faded away.

Only silence for you now.

Squall remains tense for a good long while. He hates this. All of this but when the silence and lack of presence stayed that way, he eased up. Only a little.

Enough to slide into a sitting position against the wall and just huddle there for a while. It sucks. This sucks. Why does this keep happening to him?

And there he stays until his vision returns as inexplicably as it had left. Maybe he'll go back to his room and watch that damn video this time.

The 7-foot tall red-skinned woman is staring out the window of the observation room, stunned silent by the view. Begonia wouldn't call herself stupid by any means but all of this is beyond her. Very little is familiar. What she's looking at makes no sense. There's no earth, no ocean, no blue sky, no clouds. Even the video which she figured out after some random pressing of buttons didn't clarify much for her.

She sighs softly and brushes a stray strand of hair behind her ear.

"Become a 'venturer and see the world, I said. Can't be any worse than the Calamity, I said." Another resigned sigh. "This is the kind of adventure for a Warrior of Light. Not me."

She hugs her elbows but turns her right hand to look at the glyph on it. No color yet like the person said, but maybe that'll change sometime.

She looks up to the ceiling and speaks a little louder. Gods, it feels awkward to speak to nothing.

"I don't know if you can hear me, ah... Navi, was it? I don't suppose you could tell me where I can find a stiff drink?"
