you've got to choose between your faces

WHO: OPEN to all passengers.
WHAT: General mingle log for the first part of the month, including new partner pairing stuff.
WHERE: Navi, all over.
WHEN: Now until the next event (through May 23).
WARNINGS: If things get messy and/or upsetting, please put warnings in your comment subject lines! And if you absolutely can't keep from strangling your new partner, please report it on the death page.

Hello, passengers! Today begins just like normal, but it’s far from an ordinary day. On this fine point in space-time, passengers will notice a little something different when it comes to the glyphs marked on the backs of their hands.

They're glowing. The light is a deep shade of blue, and it's slowly blinking on and off. Maybe it's searching for something? It's entirely possible, because affected passengers will also feel a gentle tugging sensation that stops once they've come face to face with their partners. The glyph will switch to glowing a steady blue once partners are synced with each other, and they'll be able to communicate telepathically with each other, too.

Have fun getting to know each other a little better! Or, you know. Yelling at each other. Just try to keep the murder to a minimum, OK?

Jealous like-

"Absolutely not. I am concerned about him. He's not well, clearly, and the young man is a murderer. It's not jealousy." Not that jealousy. Or is it?

He puts his glasses on and studies the young woman, blank, features passive. Was it that? She deserved better emotionally but was he-

Goddamnit.

Animal desires were not something he was prey to. Not in this circumstance and with emotions and potential clawing at the flimsy wooden doors of his mind he looks away and pulls away, adjusting his glasses.

"I know who Simon is, Richard." It's not a lie, she's always been able to see Simon more clearly than Strand has, but whether or not that has to do with the fact that Simon reaches out to her each time or because she's the one who found the case (sort of. Simon definitely found her and started drawing her in to that particular web which isn't something that Alex wants to think about. There's too many people who have curated her experience of the story including the man who is sitting across from her.) "I know what he is and I know what he's done." After all, Simon had confessed it all too her, in his round about way. Even the ones that weren't his parents.

Especially the ones that weren't his parents. Alex forcefully wrenches her thoughts away from the little place in her mind that contains Maddie Franks and everything else that entails.

"And I'm concerned about Simon too," but Alex's concern is more for him than anything else. "He's had it rough, Richard. What did he tell you about himself?" It's a simple question, honestly, but a loaded one because Alex is willing to bet that it's not a whole hell of a lot.

"Nothing."

He decides then that he doesn't want to admit that he was being antagonistic to Simon, or vice versa, "He has simply been...cryptic. Offering advice and then vanishing despite my best efforts to learn more."

They've been physically violent at each other, like two cats fighting, but there's no need to bother Alex with that right? Right?...

He sighs, "We do not get along."

Alex can’t keep the little laugh that comes at the mention of Simon being cryptic. “Yeah, that’s kind of his thing right from the beginning actually. It can be really frustrating.” Which is an understatement (possibly two understatements in one go, actually.) considering how she’s responded to him more than a few times though to be fair anyone would be pissy if they weren’t sleeping, had gone to a hotel with someone to visit the honeymoon suite of his missing not dead wife, found a creepy painting with a bookcypher underneath it, fought with well, him, and then had her car broken into and a bunch of shit taken from her car on the ferry back and then not been warned when receiving a phone call from a murderer who may or may not be stalking her.

(Definitely stalking her honestly.)

But. “You think he’s a deranged murderer back home, that probably has something to do with it if you’re doing that here too. You didn’t get along from the first time you met. Before you met actually. ” Alex pauses for a moment before she asks: “do you remember the message on my phone? It happened before leaving Jeff Wendt’s mothers house. Someone said ‘he’s not who you think?’ That was Simon. But with that said, he probably can help you with this. Maybe he’s the only one who can considering everything. And as cryptic as he is, Simon does want to help. He doesn’t want the world to end.”

"No he doesn't." Which is why he doesn't trust me. Richard doesn't say anything. Staring at her he closes his eyes and sighs, "We have been antagonistic at each other. He is...fiercely protective of you and thinks that I have been a bastard. Which - to be fair - I am."

He breathes. Five in, five hold, eight out. Reiki breathing techniques help as he tries to build the wall up higher in his mind, "You should know that."

"Know that you've been a bastard?" Alex just asks with a smile, making it more clear that she's making a bad joke this time. "Yeah, I'm aware." But there's a pause, and Alex knows that Strand is being honest and she knows that's not his natural state of being. More often than not, he shades the truth, obfuscates it, wraps it in humor or whatnot in order to make it less visible. So when he's done breathing like she had been, she just puts her hand on his again.

"I'm sorry that you two have been antagonistic to one another. You're right, he is protective of me even if I'm not quite sure why he thinks I'm the one who's going to stop this but that's not here nor there. It just is. And you tend to be antagonistic when you're jealous, I know that." And no, she's not going to back down on that point because it's true. Alex has seen it before and while she may not have been at the root of what was happening between Braun and Strand, she knows that it definitely hadn't helped in Los Gatos, and there was Jon here and now there was this whatever the hell it was with Simon too.

"But you two can't keep doing it here. If nothing else the ship is too small for you two to actually be at war. And Navi doesn't deserve it, and neither does anyone here including the both of you."

"I'm not antagonistic when it comes to being jealous. I am not jealous of Simon." He presses his lips together, "I'm not, because he couldn't possibly..."

Ugh.

"I will try." He won't, well he'll make an effort to stay away but he burned Simon and Simon has been playing in his mind and he thinks he's Satan, doomed to end the world through logic and reason which if that were the case then let it end and Alex...

Alex.

He looks at her again, "...Do you think I'm dangerous?"

Alex has already arched one brow when he says that he's not antagonistic when he's jealous because she knows that he's either lying to himself or to her and neither is great, and the brow only inches closer to her hairline when it comes to what Simon couldn't possibly whatever. She wants know what he means by that, of course she does because Alex Reagan never had a question that she didn't want to ask and that statement was begging to be challenged with stage lights wrapped around it.

But she also knows that Richard is sharp and she doesn't want him to renege on trying to be civil with Simon. Or at the very least not openly goading him into a fight. Still, the question sits heavily on her tongue, and Alex opens her mouth about to ask it when he hits her with something that she doesn't expect from him.

"No." The word comes quickly, instantly even, the first thing that comes to Alex Reagan's mind at it. "I don't think that you're dangerous. I think that you make wrong choices sometimes, but that's kind of my thing so I'm not about to throw stones when it comes to that."

Yes.

Of course she'd say that. He knew that Simon was also at least willing to be helpful but now with this and her looking at him...

His expression is unreadable again and he nods slowly.

"Thank you Alex." He pauses, "I'll need to listen to this." He shakes the tape.

Alex knows that she's being dismissed and while it wrangles at her skin, she doesn't want to fight with him. It's not worth fighting him when he's finally going to do the thing that she wants him to do, so Alex just nods and rises from her seat leaving the tea on the table. Giving Richard a little smile, she just adds: "you know where to find me when you're ready." Right next door, handily enough.

"I'll see you later, Richard." And then she leaves his cabin, cause she's got a pet murderer to see.
